Matthew was awarded the Coast Guard’s inaugural Human Resources Management Award for Excellence for his role in the historic response to Hurricane Harvey in 2017. Among his military awards are five Meritorious Service Medals with the Operational Distinguishing Device and various other personal and unit awards. He was given the distinction of being named an Honorary Chief Petty Officer by the 13th Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard in 2021.
